Wire sawing cuts concrete by drawing a continuous loop of diamond-beaded cable through the section under tension. Because the wire wraps around the piece and is driven by a powered pulley system, it can cut sections of virtually any thickness and shape — including geometry that no rotating blade could reach around. This makes wire sawing the method of choice for the heaviest, most heavily reinforced, and most complex concrete removals.

Process & safety

Wire sawing is a wet operation — water is delivered to the running cable to suppress respirable crystalline silica, cool the diamond beads, and flush cuttings, consistent with OSHA 29 CFR 1926.1153. Because the cut sections are heavy, rigging, bracing and controlled removal are integral to the plan; crews sequence cuts so isolated masses stay supported until they are ready to be lifted. Guide-hole locations are chosen after GPR scanning where embedded tendons or utilities could be in the wire's path.
