Joint cutting methods
Control and contraction joints are cut with joint sawing, sized to roughly a quarter of the slab depth so the slab cracks along the sawn line. Larger or full-depth expansion joints and longer runs use slab sawing. Tight areas and edges are finished with hand sawing.
For joint refurbishment, the old sealant is removed and the joint re-cut to a clean profile ready for backer rod and new sealant. On post-tension slabs, concrete scanning confirms tendon cover before deeper cuts.
