Retrofitting a trench drain into an existing slab means cutting a straight channel to the drain manufacturer's width, then excavating to the depth the drain body and slope require. Get the width or slope wrong and the drain either won't seat or won't drain.

How trench channels are cut
The channel edges are cut with slab sawing or dedicated trench cutting equipment, giving straight parallel walls. The concrete between the cuts is removed with slab removal methods, and the base is graded to the drain's slope. Related floor drains are cored with concrete core drilling.
On structural slabs, concrete scanning locates reinforcement and post-tension along the trench line before cutting.
